With the ubiquity of child star train wreck stories these days, I used to wonder why a parent would push their kid into show business knowing the likely consequences. Well I wouldn’t say that I COMPLETELY understand now, but a strange thing happened recently.
A few weeks back, I posted a clip on Vimeo of Carter that I took while he was getting his first bath at the hospital. Then out of the blue I get an email from a producer who happened to see the clip, asking if I would sell her the rights so she could use it in a video for a corporate client. Cha Ching. Let’s just say the little guy could easily pay for his own diapers for the next few months.
Tempting as it is, Carter will not be pursuing an acting career anytime soon. Chris and I have decided to add his earnings to his college fund, sadly the rest will have to come from our own sweat and hard work. Or the MegaMillions.
Our buddy Mijin was in town this past weekend paying us a visit from the Chi. On Saturday we went to check out the California Academy of Sciences to try and culture ourselves (and test out my new Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens).

Upside down Jellyfish
It was a tough trying to take sharp pics indoors without a flash. Luckily my new lens performed well in low light. The f/2.8 is worth the extra cost and the image stabilization really made a difference especially since all of my pics were hand held.

Chocolate chip starfish
Only 2 posts and I’ve already posted pics of 2 starfish.

Spiny tailed lizard
What a photogenic lizard.

My wife, the model.

Hut Building
Some people in front of the CAS were building huts out of these sticks that were covering the front lawn.

Excellent hut
These people even built a door for their hut…losers.

hut FAIL
Chris tried copying them and well, she FAILED

hut base FAIL
Irwin and Mijin tried using Chris as a base to build their hut around but that didn’t work either.

Ladies
That’s it for today.
So I’ve decided to take Irwin’s advice and create a wordpress account to start blogging about my new hobby. Facebook isn’t always to best outlet for pictures so I figured this would be a great way for people to see my pictures and my progress as I gain more experience behind the camera.
A few weeks ago Chris and I went to check out San Francisco’s Presidio because I figured that it would be a great place to practice with my new camera.

Golden Gate Bridge
Sure the Golden Gate bridge is the most cliche picture you can take in the city but why not?

My wife, the model
These were taken with my 18-55mm kit lens. As you can tell the DOF isn’t the greatest considering these were taken wide open but I think the pics still came out alright.

Starfish
While we were walking around the presidio we walked onto a pier where some people were fishing. A gentleman who was crabbing happened to pull in this starfish right as we walked by so I snapped a picture.

Mist
As we were walking back to shore on the pier I saw this and knew it would make a great pic.
I know I’m new at this and I’m probably breaking every rule to post processing but thats the point of this blog, to see my progression as an amateur photographer. Thats it for now, any feedback would be appreciated.
